Spanish Rice

This recipe came from my mama.  She use to make this when I was growing up.  She'd serve it with a yummy chicken tortilla casserole. I'll have to share that recipe too.
SPANISH RICE
Add 1/4 cup of oil to a saucepan.  Sauté 1/4 cup minced onion and 1 clove of garlic, minced. Add 1-1/2 cups of white rice and brown over medium-high heat.
Add 2 cups chicken broth and 1 cup water
 1 tablespoon cumin
 2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper,
1 teaspoon garlic powder.
and 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
Mix, and bring to a boil.
Turn heat to low and cover with a lid
Cook on low 35 minutes or until rice is soft and tender and there is no liquid left.

SPANISH RICE
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup minced onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1-1/2 cups white rice
2 cups chicken broth
1 cup water
1 tablespoon cumin
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 (8 oz.) tomato sauce

In a medium saucepan sauté onion and garlic in oil.  Add rice and allow to brown.  Stir in broth, water, spices, and tomato sauce.  Bring to a boil.  Once mixture has reached a boil, turn heat to low and cover with a lid.  Continue to cook on low for 35 minutes or until rice is soft and tender and there is no liquid left.
