From Scratch Cream of Chicken Soup

A lot of the recipe my family loves contain some kind of cream of something soup.  My neighbor hates creamed soups and calls them "Cream of Poison" soup.  If you feel the same way, just make your own.   This way you can control what ingredients is in them.   It's really easy and takes less than 10 minutes.  Here's the recipe for cream of chicken soup.

Cream of Chicken Soup

3/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon instant chicken bouillon granules
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup finely chopped chicken (optional)

Mix onion powder and bouillon into milk.  In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat.  Add flour, stirring with whisk.  Allow to brown (about 2 minutes).  Gradually add milk, stirring until smooth and thickened.  Stir in chicken pieces (optional).

STEP-BY-STEP
Mix onion powder and bouillon with the milk
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.
 Add 2 tablespoons of flour
 Stir using a whisk.
Keep stirring until the mixture browns
 Now slowly add the milk
stirring until nice and smooth and thickened.
If you are adding finely chopped chicken pieces, stir them in now.
You can make this ahead of time and store it in a jar in the refrigerator until you're ready to use it.
